Qualifications

It’s been a while since I last did a Canine First Aid course, so I thought it was time to do a refresher course. I’m therefore happy to say that, in November 2022, I successfully completed a Higher Certificate in Canine First Aid course and am now an accredited canine first aider.

In August 2022, I completed a Dog Law Certificate course run by the British College of Canine Studies and was graded with a Distinction. This took me over a year to complete and consisted of seven separate units, with written assignments at the end of each unit. The aim of the course was to bring awareness of the responsibilities, restrictions and duties that are placed upon us when we commit to dog ownership, or take responsibility for a dog through training, rescuing and working with behaviour issues. It covered issues such as breed specific legislation, dog welfare law and travelling with dogs, as well as lots of other aspects.

In April and May 2020, (during the Covid-19 lockdown) I completed courses on Canine Anxiety (which helped me have a greater understanding of canine anxiety and a better appreciation of the different types of anxiety that a dog can suffer with) and Canine Reactive Behaviour (which helped me understand what a dog is experiencing when we witness reactive behaviour, how it might develop and how to help a reactive dog).

On 20th July 2019, I attended an Emergency Canine First Aid Course run by Rhodes 2 Safety. This was a practical, hands on, course that provided me with essential skills in how to deal with emergency situations and reinforced my learning from the online courses I have previously completed.

In June 2019, I successfully completed a Pet Sitting and Dog Walking Business Course from NarpsUK (the National Association for Pet Sitters & Dog Walkers).  The course included modules on running a business – from managing clients to business plans and marketing, law and insurance – as well as modules on animal healthcare, first aid and nutrition.
